Full Bike Rack

Both slots are taken on the Culver City 6 this morning. Long Beach is the only system I know of with racks that hold three bikes.

Right now I'm on my way to West LA. I have to go there almost every Friday on business. It wouldn't be that bad a drive going up, but the 22.5 mile commute home would probably take 2.5 hours.
About a year ago I discovered another option. I put my bike on the front of the bus and take it up with me in the morning. In the afternoon I ride down the beach to get home. It's a 25 mile ride, but I've done it in less than 2:10.
Ride on the beach or park on the 405? I'm sorry; is there supposed to be a choice there? It sounds like having to choose between a really good dinner or an unnecessary root canal without anesthetic.
Not only is the commute more pleasant, but after a year ofdoing it once a week, I weigh 20 pounds less than when I graduated from high school. And (at 54) I'm in better shape than a lot of people half my age.
This blog will serve as a chronicle of some of my experiences on mass transit in Southern California (mostly LA and Orange counties), and will also have helpful tips for other commuters.
